The prime minister has announced new cabinet appointments after deputy PM and housing minister resigned last week. The resignation came after it was revealed she didn't pay enough tax on a flat in Hove.
Liz Kendall will now become secretary of state for science, innovation and technology after Peter Kyle was appointed secretary of state for business and trade and president of the Board of Trade.
Elected as the MP for Leicester West in May 2010, Kendal previously served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions between 5 July 2024 and 5 September 2025.
In her new position, Kendall will have overall responsibility for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
Ian Murray has been appointed Minister of State jointly in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology after Sir Chris Bryant was moved to the Department for Business and Trade. He will take on the role of Minister of State for Data Protection and Telecoms. Also elected as an MP in May 2010, Murray previously served as Secretary of State for Scotland from 5 July 2024 to 5 September 2025.
Lord Vallance remains Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation.
Feryal Clark, previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government, has left the government. Baroness Jones of Whitchurch, formerly Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Future Digital Economy and Online Safety has also left the government.
Kanishka Narayan has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Narayan was elected as the MP for Vale of Glamorgan in July 2024.
