300 on-street chargers have been installed in Barnet in six weeks, bringing the total number of charge points across the borough to over 1,500.

300 column EV charge points have been installed as part of a partnership between char.gy, Barnet, and their street lighting PFI service provider.

Barnet Council has a plan to install up to 1,000 new lamp column EV charge points, to bring the borough's total to over 2000 once all phases are complete. The expansion supports Barnet Council’s goal of becoming a Net Zero Borough by 2042.

Each installation usually takes around two hours.

Over the next phase of the installation, nearly 40 legacy charge points will be replaced with new char.gy units.

All the charge points use Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) tariffs and offer charg.gy’s Night Tariff at ~£0.39/kWh.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Barnet’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “Installing 300 charge points in just six weeks shows how serious we and char.gy are about tackling climate change and making it easier for residents to go electric. This rollout is a major step toward our goal of becoming a Net Zero borough by 2042. By supporting the switch to electric vehicles, we’re also helping to improve air quality across Barnet, making our streets healthier and safer for everyone.”
