£4.5m offered by the Government to boost cloud computing

The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has put up £4.5 million to be made available to small and medium sized companies that can remove barriers to the adoption of cloud computing.

The competition has been launched because the demand for cheaper cloud computing services was growing at 26 per cent a year, but that organisations needed to find a “balance between trust on the one hand and flexibility of approach on the other”.

The TSB said the UK government has started using cloud services, but within a so-called “private cloud” due to “fears over security and resilience”.
