Certes Computing
Catalist IT recruitment supplier champions carbon neutral recruitment

ImageCertes Computing, the specialist IT staffing organisation, and established Catalist framework supplier, has partnered with TalkingCV.com to offer its clients and candidates an innovative new web based recruitment service in support of its bid for more environmentally conscious recruitment.

Talking CV™ is a revolutionary 3 Dimensional Personal Profile consisting of video, audio and text.   Using an Internet-enabled PC with webcam, candidates are able to record an interview – which is structured to suit each client’s role, helping to bring to life a previously one-dimensional text-based CV.  This unique service allows clients to dispense with time consuming first stage interviews and helps to dramatically reduce the often extensive travel arrangements surrounding the interviewing process.

Talking of this new concept Simon Churan, MD of Certes said “We estimate that over a year the total average mileage involved in our candidates getting to interviews adds up to in the region of 150,000 miles. If our clients routinely implemented the TalkingCV™ concept at initial interview stage, we’d be reducing this amount by about two thirds, so when you start to evaluate the carbon emissions involved, it’s easy to see that this would have a very favourable impact on reducing carbon emissions.”

Churan continues “TalkingCV™ is a fantastic product, which provides recruiters with a clear picture of candidates’ personalities, communication skills and other vital attributes.  It allows them to profile candidates regardless of their location, cutting recruitment costs significantly and with its capacity for ‘Multi viewing’; it allows involvement of key people within the short-listing process - anytime and anywhere.”

Certes chose the Procurement Solutions 2007 show earlier in the summer to showcase this revolutionary new tool, and as part of their commitment to environmentally conscious recruitment practise Certes pledged to plant a tree for every 10 visitors to their stand.  Choosing Carbon Footprint™ (the United Nations’ offset partners) to help implement this donation, Certes have been able to plant 10 trees in the West Midlands area, from where the company operates it headquarters.

Each tree planted ‘offsets’  environmental impact by ‘breathing’ in about 730 kg CO2 emissions over its lifetime. It’s estimated that the average person needs to save about 7,000kg of CO2 per year. So planting just 10 trees each year is one strategy for achieving this.  The trees also provide sustainable habitat for wildlife and will enhance the natural landscape with native broad-leaved trees.
