Fujitsu awarded Carbon Trust Standard award
UK and Ireland division reduced carbon footprint by 1,483 tonnes.

The UK  and Ireland services division of Fujitsu has been presented with the ‘Carbon Trust Standard’ for reducing its carbon footprint by 1,483.7 tonnes of carbon.

Fujitsu Services Holdings Plc was given the award, which recognises commitment to measuring and reducing carbon emissions, for showing that it had a robust and transparent procedure for measuring emissions and had made clear progress in reducing its carbon footprint.

The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first carbon award that requires an organisation to measure, manage and reduce its carbon footprint and actually make real reductions year-on-year. Organisations are rewarded for actions they’ve taken to cut carbon across their own operations.

An independent assessor looked at Fujitsu’s carbon accounting procedures, carbon and energy management and reduction programmes. All data was independently verified and a selection of site surveys were undertaken to confirm the accuracy of the commitment and practices Fujitsu had provided on paper to the assessor.

Juliet Silvester, head of corporate responsibility, Fujitsu UK and Ireland said: "Many organisations purchase carbon “offsets” to compensate for the emissions they generate. Some organisations aim to achieve “neutrality” by purchasing offsets equivalent to their total emissions."

"The Carbon Trust Standard does not give credit for offsets – as the Standard requires organisations to take responsibility for reducing their own emissions directly."
