More than 13,700 students to access Civica Learning Suite ICT based learning environment.
Civica has awarded a contract to ntl:Telewest Business to provide Luton secondary schools with faster access to online learning resources and the internet through a high capacity Next Generation Network. The £1.7 million network will enable more than 13,700 students and 1,350 teachers to use the Civica Learning Suite, the company’s ICT-based learning environment. The centralised learning platform includes course content, teaching resources and information for parents. The network will carry voice traffic, enabling free calls between schools and link to the council’s intranet, payroll and library systems, as well as access to learning resources. Civica is the prime Information and Communication Technology partner in the £270 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) consortium that is rebuilding Luton’s 14 secondary schools. It is responsible for the phased building and refurbishment of Luton’s secondary schools and their ongoing facilities management for the next 25 years. Civica chose ntl:Telewest Business’ Metro Ethernet Virtual Private Network service, which provides secure, high-speed, any-to-any connectivity at up to 1 Gigabit-per-second, 100 times faster than the existing network. John Maund, public sector sales manager for the south east at ntl:Telewest Business said: “Improving the learning experience requires access to innovative, interactive resources that will engage current and future pupils.” “Luton’s BSF programme is redefining education and acting as a beacon for similar projects.” Further information: ntl:Telewest Business |
