The power of three
For the sixth consecutive year SNW Europe will open its doors, bringing educational and inspiring conference sessions together with the most comprehensive expo featuring all the leading players in the industry

ImageDoors open for the sixth consecutive SNW Europe to be held at Congress Frankfurt at 08:00 on Tuesday 27th October. This year SNIA Europe and organisers Angel Business Communications are launching two new co-located events, ‘Virtualization World’ and ‘Datacenter Technologies’, recognising the fact that organisations are increasingly looking at more than just their storage environments in isolation and are increasingly concerned about how their server, application and overall IT infrastructure strategies and plans interact. The three co-located conference programmes start at 09:00 in the Congress Centre and feature a mix of keynote addresses, SNIA tutorials, customer case studies and industry discussions lead by independent experts, analysts, end-users and industry professionals.

SNIA Tutorial Programme
The backbone of SNW Europe and the co-located conferences are the series of vendor-neutral SNIA Tutorial sessions. SNIA tutorials are educational sessions developed by participants in the industry. They are intended to present technical and business (IT) issues in a fair and unbiased manner and are designed to give a consensus view of particular topics, from the viewpoint of the entire industry or a significant segment. The 2009 tutorial programme covers the following topics

  • Storage management
  • Virtualization
  • Data protection
  • Networking
  • Security
  • Solid state storage
  • Files systems and management
SNW Europe Cloud Summit
A key element of the agenda on Tuesday 27th is the Cloud Summit that runs from 13:30 – 17:30 and which will feature not only the very latest thinking from the newly formed SNIA Cloud Storage Working Group but several of the key players in this exciting sector. The Summit will be opened and chaired by Steve O’Donnell of ESG Europe whose background includes a term as Global Head of Data Centres at BT and will also feature presentations from Simone Brunozzi, Amazon Web Services Technology Evangelist – Europe, and a contemporary case study from Konstantin Petruch, Senior Manager Operations Planning & Strategy at Deutsche Telekom Products & Innovation and Matthias Reß, International Senior IT Storage Architect, T-Systems.

SNIA has created the Cloud Storage Technical Work Group (TWG) for the purpose of developing SNIA architecture and software related to system implementations of Cloud Storage technology. The Cloud Storage TWG is creating a standard called the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) and will also create an open source reference implementation of the standard. In addition, SNIA has approved the formation of a Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) to further promote and educate about Cloud Storage technologies and standards. It is actively soliciting membership in preparation for a launch of the group later this year.

Customer case study programme
A full programme of customer case studies, presented by the organisations themselves, runs through both days of the conferences. A highlight of the programme is a presentation from Adriana Telesca of CERN on the full deployment of ‘ALICE’ (A large Ion Collider Experiment). Other Featured Customer Case Studies include:
  • Deutsche Telekom
  • T-Systems
  • Deutsche Post
  • Signal Iduna
  • EON
  • PlusServer AG
  • Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya, Spain
  • Leiter Servermanagement, GISA GmbH
